Ms. Diesel came into our rescue program on July 14, 2020. Ms. Diesel came into our rescue program from the City of Edmond Animal Welfare along with 23 other horses as a cruelty case. This case has been a long drawn out ordeal and we are thankful that we can now prepare these horses for adoption. Many of these horses had a lot of medical issues that we have been treating and taking care of. Reportedly, most of the horses in this case are all Western Pleasure bred. We DO NOT have registration papers on any of these horses. Ms. Diesel is a Beautiful, Bay, Quarter Horse, Mare. Ms. Diesel is estimated to be 7 years of age upon arrival into our program. Ms. Diesel is super sweet and loves attention. Ms. Diesel is very emaciated, with a body condition score 1. Ms. Diesel appears to be pregnant with milk present in teats. Ms. Diesel's blood work showed her lactate to be elevated, this can indicate poor perfusion. Glucose was low, that is likely due to poor nutrition and increased caloric demand (pregancy). Calcium was low, likely due to a poor nutrition and lactation. NA and CI were low, this can be due to dehydration and poor nutrition. A fecal egg count was done and was negative for internal parasites. On the morning of July 17, Ms. Diesel had a beautiful foal. Unfortunately, the foal had difficulty nursing and Ms. Diesel didn't seem interested in being his mom. We monitored them closely, but the baby continued to decline. We took momma and baby to our veterinarian's clinic. The foal was diagnosed with a patent urachus and septicemia. Treatment was initiated, however foal's condition continued to decline, and he passed away. Diagnosis was septic shock. Our hearts broke to lose this special baby. Unfortunately, momma just didn't have anything to offer to him in her starved condition. Ms. Diesel has a long recovery ahead of her. We will update as she improves. Update May 2023 Ms. Diesel is seeking a loving companion home only to call her own. Ms. Diesel is a sweet girl and loves attention. Ms. Diesel is now 10 years of age. It appears that Ms. Diesel previously suffered a broken pelvis prior to her arrival in our program. She is comfortable and gets around great but cannot be ridden and is seeking a companion only home. Ms. Diesel is halter broke and broke to lead. Ms. Diesel stands for the farrier and loads in a trailer. Ms. Diesel has a current negative coggins, up to date on vaccinations, deworming, dental and hoof maintenance. Former Adopters, who are in good standing, can adopt select companion horses with waived adoption fee's at our adoption event on June 3rd, 2023.
